Moving On Up: A Resource for Year 6
Supporting schools in helping Year 6 pupils with the transition to Year 7
Thank you for accessing this free transition resource.
As pupils prepare to leave primary school, they are often excited, curious and anxious all at the same time. Moving on Up has been created to help Year 6 pupils approach this next step with greater confidence by hearing directly from young people who have recently experienced the move to secondary school themselves.
The film is grounded in research with Year 6 and Year 7 pupils and teachers, capturing the advice, reassurance and reflections that children told us they wished they'd heard before making the transition.
Simply watch the film with your class, then use it as a starting point for conversation about hopes, worries and expectations for secondary school.
This mini version of the resource is completely free for what remains of this academic year (we'll keep it live until late August). If you find the it useful, the full Moving on Up resource is available as an annual school subscription for only £60 (inc. VAT). It includes ready-to-use lessons, classroom activities and teacher guidance, recognising that transition is a process, not an event.
We hope you and your pupils find the resource valuable, and we wish this year's Year 6 cohort every success as they begin the next stage of their educational journey.
“The transition from Year 6 to Year 7 can have a huge impact on confidence, wellbeing, and readiness for learning. What stands out to me about Moving on Up is how emotionally authentic and reassuring it feels. The peer voice approach is incredibly powerful, and I can see this becoming a really valuable part of our wider transition work.”
